Jonathan Goerlach, blind triathlete, Plans for Rio Paralympics
Canberra, AUSTRALIA – Triathlon is a grueling test, especially if you’ve got less than 10% vision, a hearing impairment and a fear of water caused by a near-drowning incident as a child. But Jonathan Goerlach likes to push himself and wants to compete in the sport at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He won his division at the Australian and Oceania Para-triathlon Championships last month, which led to Triathlon Australia inviting him into their elite para-triathlon squad.
