Sports Illustrated High School Athlete of the Month: Mikey Brannigan

Mikey Brannigan runs for Northport High School in New York.  His running career started when he was 8 years old and it changed his families life.  Mikey was diagnosed with Autism when he was a kid and when he found running it was obvious from the start that this was his thing.

In 7th grade he broke a 5 minute mile.  In 2014 he became a National Champion in track by running a 9:09 in the men’s 3200 meter race.  It was a new record. His coach said He is as good a person as he is an athlete”

Mikey has a simple message: “You can do anything you want. You have it inside you.”

Sports Illustrated Magazine named him High School Athlete of the Month for February 2015.
